Snow to Sea Tour

oopps... I didn't update our last trip but to recap, we had a blast in the west kootenays in February, snowboarding in Whitewater, skiing along Carpenter Creek, relaxing in the hidden gem cabin (that was the actual name of the cabin) by slocan lake, hotsprings... aww love this place... more photo's can be found in flickr...

Tomorrow we are departing on a two week road trip to the west coast... we plan to be in Whistler by Saturday were we will be staying at the Summit Lodge, a pet friendly place so Pika and Maya will feel spoiled hehe. On Sunday we plan to snowboard at Whistler, Pika and Maya can play guard dog in the van but we will no doubt make lots of stops at the van during the day to let them out. Oh yeah and there is the Telus Ski and Snowboard festival going on so maybe we will see someone famous?

From there we plan to take a ferry over to Vancouver Island and spend a day snowboarding at Mt Washington, then depending on the weather, if it's nice head north west to Cape Scott which is the most northern western point of the island but the access is along a forestry road or if it is rainy head south west to Pacific Rim National Park which is a paved road... we will keep ya posted along the way...

West Kootenay's here we come...

We are off on another week road trip to the West Kootenay's... Love this time of year, the fall colors in the forests are changing, there is a crispness in the air, no flys and hopefully no crowds. We plan to camp, hike, visit hotsprings along the way... and check our Carpenter Creek one last time this year before the snow arrives... woot woot...

Adventures of Carpenter Creek re-cap

We've been home for a week now… aww can't wait to get out to the mountains again…

All in all, we had a blast at Carpenter Creek… when we first got there, we had to rebuild our outhouse, hopefully the new a-frame shape style will survive the 600 cm snow the valley gets in the winter, good thing the outhouse project was only a day project! After that we biked and hiked and explored the Carpenter Creek valley… highlights were abandoned mine sites and abandoned cabins, relaxing along carpenter creek, some trail building/clearing, one really long (7 1/2 hours hike) to the Carpenter Basin, the headwaters of Carpenter Creek below Mount Carlyle… stunning views!!! The black flies were bad, Garth got eaten alive… but we also saw lots of humming birds, bears, deers and porcupine… so much wildlife, amazing place!!!

St Leon to Nakusp

A night at the remote st leon's hotsprings and a night at the Nakusp hotsprings... Both relaxing and unique...

Before we soaked in the springs we took a short hike to the source of the Nakusp hotsprings... the walk was so beautiful threw a lush cedar forest...

The water was so hot...

St Leon hotsprings... After a rough road down, it was a quick walk up in a cedar forest to the springs... we had the little upper source pool to ourselves... So relaxing...

Next stop... Carpenter Creek...
